Marianne Richter
Solrosen rya carpet
Marianne Richter was instrumental in Sweden’s mid-century crafts movement, and introduced Americans to traditional high pile rya rugs in the 1970s. This 'sunflower' rya is exemplary of her style— vibrant colors, bold forms, and a modernist take on Scandinavian folk art motifs. She was particularly influenced by the expressionist works of Paul Klee. Solrosen is a remarkable, earlier textile by Richter, made many years before she became well known outside of her native Sweden.
