Neolithic stool
$2,500 purchase
Making use of a large pine beam, this stool is solid yet refined in its appearance; two stout legs support a softly rounded top, with the legs simply mortised into the top. This robust construction references early structures such as Stonehenge, which are still feats of ingenuity to this day. The surface has been treated with yakisugi, the Japanese technique of charring the wood’s surface which creates a rich brown/black tone and makes it resistant to water outdoors. The top seating surface has a subtle curvature which also aids in shedding water.
